This year’s Texas Yoga Conference is going down this weekend in Houston, TX!

Want to learn more about the many different styles and lineages of yoga? Want to practice, a lot? Come to UH University Recreation and Wellness Center in Houston, TX on Feb 17-19, 2012 to enjoy and learn about the art of yoga at the 2012 Texas Yoga Conference. With over 40 presentations, you can take yoga classes with some of the top instructors in the world, including Jennifer Buergermeister, Les Leventhal, Leeann Carey, Kurt Johnsen, and Sean Johnson!

108 For Africa: Join Evolution Power Yoga and Karma Warrior Clothing for an amazing benefit for the Africa Yoga Project!

From 1-4pm, EPY teachers will join AYP instructors in Kenya (via Skype) in leading a yoga practice of 108 sun salutations. Participants must raise at least $108 to join the practice. Efforts will continue into the evening during the first ever Global Celebration Party from 7:30-10pm. The public is invited to return to EPY for entertainment, refreshments, raffles, and a silent and live auction.

All proceeds raised from 108 for Africa go to supporting AYP, which provides teacher training, financial aid, and mentor support to Kenyans so that they can lead their communities in finding personal power in their lives through the yogic principles of unity, possibility, and non-violence. “108 for Africa gives our community the opportunity make an impact that can be felt around the globe,” says EPY founder Lisa Taylor.

Each asana has its own energetic alignment based upon the movement of prana, energy lines, and the relationship of opposites in the body. An integrated understanding of this movement will allow you to open and strengthen the core structures of embodiment from head to toe, and from skin to subtle body.

In this workshop, you will learn to:Teach five primary alignment actions in every pose including foot patterns, spiral actions of the legs, position of the pelvis, spinal alignment, and support of the neck; Sequence vinyasa combinations with skill, effectiveness, fluency, and creativity; Apply Shiva Rea’s three-part vinyasa methodology to standing poses, backbends, arm balances, core abdominals, forward bends, hip openers, twists, and inversions as a base for more complex sequencing.

Join Sara Ivahoe for a weekend of Vinyasa Flow workshops at Moksha Yoga!

Green Yoga | 2/17 | 2pm – 4pm: This introduction to Green Yoga will cover some philosophy including Samkhya Karika and the Vedas, specifically the Prithivi Sutka or “Earth Versus.” We will also learn the beginnings of Tattva Shuddhi or Elemental Purification as a practice of remembering that all of the elements that make up our planet exist within ourselves- that we are a microcosm of the Planet as macrocosm.

Bhakti Vinyasa Part 1: Gunas/Quality of Life | 2/17 | 6:30pm – 9pm: Through the structure of a vinyasa flow class, we will learn how these aspects manifest themselves into the asana we practice. We will learn how to identify the quality with which we are resonating and how to use asana, dristi and pranayama to bring ourselves into the sattvic or balanced state. Learn how to master the gunas as step into a greater “quality” of life!

Bhakti Vinyasa Part 2: Dristi | 2/18 | 10am – 12:30pm: In this workshop we will address how to use the dristi to help bring us into balance and how the direction of the eyes either consciously or unconsciously is always informing our yoga practice and our lives. Through the structure of a vinyasa flow sequence, we will learn how to access the third eye, the eye of intuitive wisdom and to learn how to direct our gaze and our attention inward.

Yoga Nidra: Peace is Practice | 2/18 | 3pm – 5pm: In this workshop we will do gentle vinyasas that slow the body down, hip openers to release deeply held tension and restorative postures that allow the fresh prana to flow into the body. We will practice pranayama as a way of slowing the body down and meditation as a way to practice peace

Yin/Yang Yoga | 2/19 | 10am – 12:30pm: Most of us are looking for balance in our lives, but we don’t know how to get it, or why we fell out of balance in the first place. The Taoists teach us about two opposing energies called “yin” or in-flowing energy and “yang” out-flowing energy. The “yang” energy is how we are out in the world, our power, how we get things done. The “yin” energy is our internal world, our relationship to ourselves, our ability to get quiet and receive.
