“In the simplest way, Astheya tells us not to steal. As it expands your heart, it says, give.”—Nischala Joy Devi, The Secret Power of Yoga: A Woman’s Guide to the Heart and Spirit of the Yoga Sutras
Hyde Yoga is yogi-owned business with the simple intention to create beautiful, comfortable clothes in sustainable fabric for the global yoga community. One of the ways we honor the practice within our business is to design specialty items that benefit charitable organizations in our local community and beyond. We are especially proud of these pieces and the opportunity they provide us to give.
The newest piece in our collection is the Vira Tank, designed in collaboration with Virayoga’s Elena Brower, and benefitting Women for Women International, a non-profit organization supporting women in war-torn regions with financial and emotional aid, job-skills training, rights education and small business assistance so they can rebuild their lives.
Proceeds from the Kelly pant, designed with Kelly Morris, founder of Conquering Lion Yoga, go to Karma Builders, a New York City non-profit training formerly incarcerated men and women with skills in green woodworking, assembly services and communications, and introducing them to yoga, mindfulness practices and the principles of karma. Participants work on a mutual support model to plant the karmic seeds for lasting personal success.
Last but not least, we collaborated with Hala Khouri, Seane Corn, and Suzanne Sterling to design the Off the Mat halter, a piece that gives to their organization, Off the Mat, Into the World.™ This non-profit uses the power of yoga to inspire conscious, sustainable activism and to ignite grassroots social change. They encourage yogis around the world in taking their yoga “off the mat” to create real change in their communities.
We are inspired by and indebted to these talented teachers who shared with us both their design visions and community commitments, and have allowed us to serve in greater and greater ways.
