About the Teacher

Elevating personal growth as a lifestyle, Ashley Turner, M.A., MFTI (#62103) brings a fresh approach to yoga as a modern day psychotherapist with a soulful bent on celebrating the  body’s wisdom and inner spirit.

Deep, witty, and laser focused, she draws on the source texts of yoga while incorporating the best of Neurobiology, Jungian Psychology, Ayurveda, Tantra, Shamanism and Priestess work – vigorously challenging students from the inside out. She is known for her ability to translate complex themes into practical, real-life tools accessible to all.

She is the teacher-in-residence at Montage Laguna Beach, leading monthly workshops and an adjunct faculty member at Kripalu and Loyola Marymount University’s Yoga Philosophy program.

Her first book, Aroma Yoga®: A Guide to Using Essential Oils in Your Practice and Your Life, co-written with Tracy Griffiths, was published in October 2011.

Also, a frequent body-mind contributor to top tier media publications including SelfShapeWomen’s HealthYoga Journal and Natural Health, Ashley is the creator of best-selling Element Beginner Yoga DVD’s Yoga for Weightloss,  Yoga for Stress Relief + Flexibility and Power Yoga. Her latest DVDYoga Bootcamp was released by ExerciseTV in October 2011.

Named by Yoga Journal as Who’s Who in Power Yoga, she focuses on a dynamic vinyasa style of yoga sprinkled with nuggets of wisdom from the roots of Yoga Psychology, deep self-inquiry, devotion and humor.

She completed a Masters in Counseling Psychology with a concentration in Depth (Jungian) Pyschology from Pacifica Graduate Institute and wrote her Master’s thesis on the integration of yoga and psychology. In 2006, Ashley completed a 13-month Priestess Training with Ariel Spilsbury to become an Ordained Priestess and continues to emphasize reclaiming and empowering the feminine (in women and men). She is passionate about leading global retreats as a gateway to align with the collective unconscious through sacred adventure – inspired by an undergradutae degree in International Relations from USC.

Her original and most profound yoga teacher is Ram Dass and she began her formal training in classical Ashtanga Yoga with his Hatha Yoga teacher, Baba Hari Das at the Mt. Madonna Yoga Center near Watsonville, CA. Subsequently, she studied extensively with Sharon Gannon and David Life of Jivamukti Yoga, Mark Whitwell, Seane Corn, Mona Miller, Govindas and Krishna Das – but recognizes the ultimate teacher is life itself!

Ashley consults Hollywood creatives, leading companies, distinguished business leaders, couples, adolescents and individuals. With a diverse palate and ability to speak directly to her audience, Ashley has toured with rock stars teaching yoga, lectures in academic settings and leads transformational events worldwide.

She lives in Santa Monica, CA and Aspen, CO.
